Ahead of Friday’s opening clash with Sweden, defender Ben Chilwell says England Under-21s are feeling positive about their chances at the UEFA Euro U21 Championships.

Along with Leicester City winger Demarai Gray, the left back is currently away on international duty with the young Lions out in Poland.

England open their campaign against the current Euro U21 champions, but Chilwell is confident his nation can impress amongst Europe’s elite youth sides.

“Everyone’s looking forward to the tournament, training’s been a good tempo and everyone’s feeling fit and sharp,” said the Academy graduate.

“We had a few training camps in England before we came out here so everyone’s feeling good and we are just looking forward to the tournament, starting with the first game on Friday.

“I think we have got a great chance, we have a really strong squad and everyone is fit and well. With this squad we have a lot of players who have played a lot of matches this year so it’s quite an experienced age group.

“The youngsters in the squad have also done well, the likes of Tammy [Abraham] who scored a lot of goals, so we’ve got a good mix of experience and the young players. We are confident in our ability and looking forward to it.”

A Foxes duo that has already tasted international success this summer is Harvey Barnes and Elliott Moore, who helped England Under-20s retain their Toulon Tournament title on Saturday.

Chilwell added: “I’m really pleased for them both. They’re two boys that I have played with for years now throughout Leicester’s youth system.

“Harvey [Barnes] scored a few goals out there and Elliott [Moore] also did well so they both deserve their chance to play for England and obviously winning the tournament means they have taken their chance so happy for both of them.”
